WACO TACO COMBO

Been jamming Eric Copeland's new record Waco Taco Combo pretty hard over the past week or so after catching word over at Altered Zones that it just dropped on Denmark's Escho Records. As many of you know, Eric Copeland records and performs solo under his own name in addition to recording and performing with supreme noise staple Black Dice. I've never gotten too deep into Copeland's records but I was lucky enough to experience one of his live sets at Market Hotel a couple CMJs ago and it completely blew everything else I saw that week out of the water.

In his AZ "Zoned In" piece, Michael C. Powell refers to Black Dice as "the noise band for people who like pop music" while flipping the descriptor on Copeland, tagging his sound as "pop music for the noise kids." I generally agree with this statement, though I'd go further and say I get a serious sense of junked funk and obliterated dance cuts from the Escho release. The label has been kind enough to let us share a free download of mid-album bangpiece "Krankendudel," one of the more dancey tracks of the bunch. I'm talking a blown out and molassessed (my new word -- don't fuck wit me) club jam that completely folds in on itself a bit past the halfway mark only to ooze back into a natty (notty) groove just seconds later. Want to weed out the true vibers at your next dancefloor function? Drop the needle on this guy.

CHANDELIER

So down with this new Main Attrakionz video by AHYVE. "Swaggin' Hard" is probably my favorite track from Chandelier, which had a bandcamp download that was free AS USUAL but isn't anymore. Chandelier is only nine tracks short and all produced by L.W.H. & Julian Wass. I've had a hard time keeping up with these guys as of late. So much shit to sample ie: Rappers Ain't Shit Without a Producer. I'm not kidding... I believe that's averaging over one mixtape per month this year. Check the video above and stream another one of my favorites from the mixtape below.

ETHIOPIAN DREAMS

This past March I posted about Cankun, the looped-up psychedelic outfit of Archers By The Sea's Vincent Caylet. I mentioned his Not Not Fun tape Jaguar Dance and likened it to some of the earlier Ducktails material and older Rangers tapes like Low Cut Fades. Cankun's new disc on Hands in the Dark Records, Ethiopian Dreams, comes off as yet another take on those couple-few-years-old Not Not Fun releases, this time momentarily channeling Beach Head-y Sun Araw on "Your Fingers the Snakes" and a decidedly less Amazonian High Wolf on songs like "Laser Dance" and most of "Let's Say Quiet." The video for "Plans For the Sun" puts it pretty simply: this is music for leisure, miniature soundtracks made to take you far away on a massive jet plane to some sparkling coast with white sand and coconut cocktails and all that. Totally cheesy but pretty relaxing, nice for the past two whole days of fucking rain. Check a download of "Your Fingers the Snakes" below as well as the clip by Moduli TV then grab yourself a copy.

DEEP PURPLE

Last month I downloaded a Mediafire of all of ASAP Rocky's material to that point called Deep Purple from Tumblin Erb. Dude raps over "Bittersweet Symphony" and that's okay. He's from Harlem and he talks about fucking different girls all around the world on "Been Around The World." He also goes in on some syrupy dumb shit on the screwed version. Another track, "Uptown," features a sample of Lil Wayne talking about how uptown he is from the Drake song "Uptown" with Bun B + Wayne from the So Far Gone mixtape, gettin way bounced-up unlike the slow-rollin original. Since then I've heard one more song without trying very hard, "Wassup" produced by Clams Casino. Peep on his best shit below then download Deep Purple.

ECHOLOCATIONS

I've been real caught up in Lone's Echolocations EP, which dropped this past March on R&S. It was recommended I check this one out after speaking with howse about Cupp Cave and his new Dice Pool EP. I had seen comparisons between the two elsewhere and Echolocations proved all them RIYLs right. Just last nite I decided on my favorite track, "Rapid Racer," a futuristic beatblast on hyperspeed, unrelenting shit that touches on so many danced-out tropes it's amazing how original it feels. Everything about the song, and the entire EP for that matter, would be a prime aide for a late-nite drive you need to get caffeinated and stay awake for or a sweat-gushed basement rager you don't want to end. Personally, I've just been enjoying in headphones. Check my couple favorites below then stream the whole thing at Soundcloud.

ALSO:

Speaking of Cupp Cave, dude remixed Holy Other's "Touch" along with Matthewdavid, Supreme Cuts and Blood Diamonds as a supplement to the With U EP on Tri-Angle Records. Cupp Cave's remix sounds more like Ssaliva than the new Cupp Cave stuff. Matthewdavid's is pretty intense. Check out those two below then grab the rest at Abeano.

N E S T

n e s t - smoke signals from miko revereza on Vimeo.

This morning Miko Revereza sent over "Smoke Signals," a new analog video/improvised sound art piece with visuals by Revereza and sound by n e s t, a collaboration between yuk. and Barefoot Shrubs. Like all of Revereza's work that we've featured here, he's using analog equipment to create abstract and psychedelic video edits, this time featuring ten minutes of movement in shades of white and grey. We see images reminiscent of electron microscopes zoomed in on hair follicles ten million times, obscured by spotlights on spectral glow. The accompanying soundtrack by n e s t is an extended ambient jam that suits the video perfectly, a bit less chaotic than previous works printed in these pages by Barefoot Shrubs' predecessor Dejenga Elo (see post) and devoid of slapped beats like some of yuk.'s other stuff (see: a d w a, his Leaving Records release + his Mane Mane remix). Miko said the video's really close to him so find ten minutes during which you won't be distracted and enjoy it for real.

RONKONKOMA

Dummy Mag posted this 'new' Soundcloud download/streamer from Hype Williams yesterday, an extended live piece recorded late last year in Ronkonkoma, NY called "Healing Touch of a Sista." There's little hints of their proper material in there, most notably the "my addiction" vocal clip from "Your Girl Smells Chung When She Wears Dior" popping up. Shit gets a bit piercing a few times in the piece, as if they were recording this live and planes were actually screeching overhead which makes sense cos according to very quick research we found that Ronkonkoma is home to Long Island MacArthur Airport. Get jet-lagged and check the 24-minute track at Dummy Mag cos like all Hype Williams and/or Inga Copeland shit, it's up on the Soundcloud for a day then it goes away. Also shouts out to the White Pony art mashed up with Bart.

THE BIG DIP

Something like a month and a half ago one of FBUS's favorite futuristic juke lords howse sent over some jams from his buddy James who goes by The Range. Dude also DJs on Boston's WZBC and runs a label called sqwal. His tunes are a bit juke-styled and, like howse, very atmospheric and brooding. My favorite track from his EP is "The Big Dihttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifp," which has been bothering me since I first heard it in April. Shit gets going super heavy with all them low-end juke stabs, making your feet work before sort of trailing off into what consistently reminds me of the calm right before the storm, or some completely comfortable period of extended foreplay. Eventually the beat comes back strong as ever, little vocal blips scattered all over the track's final breakneck minute, some mist rain over Tokyo shit. Check the track then download the whole EP.

MIND FRY

Big up to Raven Sings the Blues for a preview of the new Edibles record Other Minds Meet Inner Space, out now on DNT Records. Edibles is a project of Dewey Mahood from Eternal Tapestry and Plankton Wat. Last year he released two tapes, one on Not Not Fun and one a split with Duck Dive on Stunned Records. New track "Mind Fry," which is apparently an Edibles live staple, plumes forth from the end of a toasted spliff much like some of Sun Araw's more boogie-ed out burners. This new one is more immediately funky and engaging than NNF tape Super Space / Mind Peace which oftentimes drifts into the background and lets itself be passed over. I think it's the faint vocal murmurs that bring "Mind Fry" to the forefront, a human element to separate the sound from Edibles' other deep, laid-back jungle grooves. Check the track then BUY the record.

DRAW A DOOR AND KNOCK TWICE

Neon Marshmallow Music Festival keeps on dropping pieces of their 2011 fundraiser cassette compilation into The Web, this time a magnificent piece of burbling synthesizer bliss from Outer Space, a.k.a. John Elliott from Emeralds. "Draw a Door and Knock Twice ('86 Mix Edit)" simmers for six and a half minutes with sputtering waves steadily increasing in density then receding without any real climax. It's the perfect soundtrack to watching the miniature tornadoes of airborne seeds flare up and die down outside my window, though the piece would be a suitable soundtrack for any number of natural world scenes depicting proliferating life. The festival itself is this coming weekend at the Empty Bottle in Chicago andhttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif Outer Space performs Saturday June 11 along with Pelhttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gift, Oneohtrix Point Never, Dylan Ettinger and many more. Check the track below then purchase the massive 80 minute cassette to help raise fest funds.

ABORTION GROUP

Every once in a while I get to a point where there's a bunch of new information on Dem Hunger and Dem Hunger-related projects so I post those pieces of information all at once.

1. The Hers is a pre-Dem Hunger Dem Hunger from three or four years ago. This past month he uploaded a bunch of tracks under the name to his Soundcloud, including the set titled Pregnant Strangers. The Hers is way more pleasant and meditative than some of his other works, which tend to get a bit difficult to listen to. There's still all the vinyl pops and cracks and hiss and fucked vocal samples, just at a slower pace, a lounged-out Dem Hunger that came about when he was "BORED IN THE SKULL."

THE HERS - WHITE OIL by ARAFAT GROUP

2. Dem also recently posted a couple remixes, his "Orange Bike Edit" of an untitled Matthewdavid track and a remix of Dynoo's "Boothbay" or, more specifically, the "Wanda Group Sink Into My Love (Eternal Horseshit) Version."

MATTHEWDAVID - UNKNOWN TITLE (DEM HUNGER ORANGE BIKE EDIT) by ARAFAT GROUP

DYNOO - BOOTHBAY (WANDA GROUP SINK INTO MY LOVE (ETERNAL HORSESHIT) VERSION) by ARAFAT GROUP

3. Dem's next output will be as Wanda Group, with two splits on the horizon with the gentleman behind Cupp Cave/Ssaliva and with Jar Moff. Hoping this 30-second Wanda Group clip has something to do with one of those releases...

SONHO MARÍTIMO

Portugal's Branches dropped a new single recently, a free three-track download from bandcamp called Sonho Marítimo. Dude goes in on some more new age-y vibes than I'm used to hearing from him, and the results are beautiful -- bubbling synthesizers floating on an innertube pond forever, just barely making out the hammering street sound from across the water. Branches' ambient trend will continue this summer on Primeira Vez, his upcoming release on Triple You Tapes (UUU#012). Check the two non-title-tracks from the single, download it all on bandcamp, then hold tight for information regarding the new tape.
