PARTY TRASH

Posted about Clearing last month. Dude has another project called Party Trash, which will eventually see some sort of CDR release on Disaro.

Check out these couple tracks, a bit more brutal than the more delicate sounds of Clearing. Also one of them is a Seal edit, which is automatically dope.

FRIENDSHIP CLUB #8 - ASTRO NAUTICO

For this edition of the Friendship Bracelet Friendship Club I am proud to present three separate mixes from each of the three members of the Astro Nautico crew, a.k.a. Kuhn, Obey City and Paul Jones. The dudes are active in Brooklyn gettin on their DJ set shit every other week at Cameo Gallery for their Over the Top nite ("fresh mixes every time, drink specials, big crowd, deep sensations").

Paul Jones a.k.a. Paolo brings you the third and final installment of FBFC#8, a heavy assortment of jams and violent voice-overs. His FAT DUDES tumblr is a favorite of mine and I'm curious to see what his +++WEED identity will do next after his couple jams on Astro Nautico's Atlantics EP.

The mix in his own words:

"minimal wave type radio style shitttt with street trash sprinkled on top"

GET YOUR SLIMY FINGERS OFF ME

Total Slacker soldiers on with their real-talk version of pop-slack in the new song "Creepo's," which further confirms their mundane song topic expertise. Don't take that from me, though. This is what the band had to say about the song via email:

"its about trying to be friendly and enage w people at social thingys but getting cornered by a creepo, who wont let u go, and then later he finds you on facebook, and yr like freak... if i dont except his friend request then im a jerk, but if i do, hes gonna be creepin all the time on my page n shit... age old dilema"

The band also has their first 7" vinyl record out soon on Impose Records, featuring full/new versions of "Crystal Necklace" and "Video Store Rental Guy." The final version of the former sounds great, much cleaner than the demo that had been floating around the past few months.

ONE DOLLAR HEINEKENS

About a month or so ago I replied to an open tweet about doing up a flyer for Brooklyn Based's Northside Festival showcase, curated by Microphone Memory Emotion. Since probably no one else responded to the inquiry, I was asked to design a poster for the show, which features FBC alums Family Portrait, Coasting and Fluffy Lumbers, as well as opener Bermuda Bonnie. The show's this Friday, June 25 at Matchless (557 Manhattan Avenue, across from McCarren Park). Bands start at 9PM, $6 cover, $1 Heinekens from 8-10PM. Come hang out.

I'll also be at a bunch of other shows this weekend around Brooklyn including:

- Wavves, Cloud Nothings, DOM Thursday nite at Knitting Factory

- Tame Impala Friday nite at Glasslands

- Ducktails, Big Troubles, WOOM, Arches, Dana Jewell, No Demons Here, Andrew Cedermark Saturday nite at Shea Stadium (Chocolate Bobka Northside showcase)

- Omar Souleyman, CSC Funk Band Sunday afternoon at Issue Project Room

SHAWTY SWAG

FBC alum heRobust made a couple tracks available for download through Bandcamp, including his intergalactic remix of KP & Envyi's all-gal smooth-banger "Swing My Way." Grab both below and check that original video which, according to wikipedia, features "a young Polow Da Don."

Check out the original, the Twins remix and the Laurel Halo remix and COP THE 7" for the Twin Sister re-work.

BALAM ACAB - SEE BIRDS EP

I first posted about 19-year-old Alec Koone's Balam Acab project way back in February after checking out the track "See Birds" many times on Pink Priest's God of Blues blog, where he described the sound as "chocolate covered diamonds fallin' from the moon into your fiancee's glass of champagne right before you rub your feet together."

I feel as though it's necessary to compile all the Acab-related sounds I've collected over the following four months in celebration of the announcement of his See Birds EP, out August 16 on Triangle Records. First thing I notice in the press email is the presence of two versions of "See Birds" on the EP, the "Moon" version and the "Sun" version, the former being the download in my original post and first song on the record.

Check out all the downloads below and seriously GRAB A COPY of this record when it drops in August. You've got the "Moon" version of "See Birds," the Coyote Clean Up Dub, the PHYSICAL THERAPY SOUTHERN MIGRATION MIX, non-EP track "Heavy Living Things" and Balam Acab's remix of Pink Priest jam "Tell Me Something Awesome Before I Go To Sleep." Also peep a few transmissions from another of Koone's projects, ETHEREA, including excellent remixes of St. Vincent and Animal Collective.

WICKED FAG

Wicked Fag is my friend Vince. He wrote a lot of Wicked Fag songs like ten years ago and lost some of the original tapes, but he's been recording more songs and getting together a band of more friends and will be playing shows soon. Here's a few of my favorites, which will see physical release this Summer as a cassette of two short EPs, one on the A and the other on the B. Details to follow.

DRASTIC AND DIFFICULT

Big Troubles' Worry LP (out this July on Olde English Spelling Bee) is on the top of my list of records I cant wait for, right up against Big Boi's solo shit. I think I've been waiting for this album for about a year now, ever since the dudes first got me a demo of "Drastic and Difficult" last July for the first Friendship Bracelet Club compilation.

Over the following year I've seen the band play this song many times in person, in live videos, heard it live on the radio and of course in the newest MP3 version that will appear on their self-titled 7" which is ready to ship from the OESB Shoppe. Excited to hear the song played from a physical medium. Check out all the various versions below and BUY A RECORD.

The first excellent mix comes from Kuhn, about which he had this to say:

"i put this mix together to sample a bunch of different ways that 'eastern' jamz have been appropriated in the beat musics of today and yesteryear... it's full of sounds from arabic, turkish, persian, indian and balkan music, most of which appear as the artists sampled them, and others of which i mashed over the tracks. originally i wanted to mix 1001 songs, but that turned into 'rock the casbah' on repeat. i pruned it down to 18 mins. goes excellent with a summer night."

ALSO:

I've been holding onto this as yet unreleased matthewdavid jam for way too long. "Trusss" is one of the nicest pieces of his that I've heard, more along the lines of "Know You're Not Alone" from his All City 10" and "Desert Moon" from Friendship Bracelet Club #4.

Laid out by crystal blue water vibes. Mosaic pool floors and underwater lamps at dusk.

WE ARE ITS WAVES

LOLFM is a trio from Northampton, Massachusetts who create pleasant, kraut-y electronic pop songs. To be entirely transparent, Eric Hnatow is a member and I would consider him a friend of mine at this point, but I hadn't heard much of his non-solo-project work aside from a few old Hnatiw songs. Not until recently, when he handed me what looked like a 10" record. It turned out to be a CD-R of LOLFM's album We Are Its Waves with a 10"-sized screen print like the above image.

Check out highlights below then grab the whole thing from Bandcamp. Then message the dudes for a screen print, maybe there's more.

IVAN MAIRESSE

I met Ivan Mairesse last Summer at the Whitehaus Family's Weirdstock fest on the steps of the Cambridge, Massachusetts YMCA. He joined Julian Lynch onstage for his set and I got talking to him afterwords about how he knew Julian and his solo music and Madison and everything.

Fast-forward like nine months and I get a message from Ivan along with four songs he recorded during the first quarter of this year while living in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. He now lives in San Francisco and will be recording more this Summer in Grand Junction, hopefully dropping some sort of tape release in the coming months.

The songs had been complementing the weather nicely until it turned to June - they meld cold starry nights with muggy late afternoons, perfect for the slow drip of Spring maple syrup harvest. A lonely drive down Route 9 between Dalton and Northampton is suddenly sweetened by burnt sap smells in my dirty station wagon, windows down or not. Eerily beautiful and heart-breaking.
