It's been quite a while since I've posted about Specialist Morgen J, but his self-titled cassette is about to drop on Triple You Tapes. SMJ is Pittsburgh resident Kenny Rakatine. He likes wrestling and Lil Wayne and King of the Hill. No really, two of his new songs are "DDT" and "Souphanousinphone." Specialist Morgen J is full of downtempo synthesizer jams, a deep string of Cloud Rap instrumentals and drugged up club tracks stitched together with extended swaths of spectral ambience. Simply put, SMJ creates dark sounds - subterranean night music for land-dwellers and day-jobbers, a soundtrack to feeling out of bounds and uneasy without steady ground to clamp onto.
