ACID ACID ACID
Didn't much listen to Hounds of Hate until I heard they were coming to play with New Yoga at Copperworks. They turned the lights off and killed it Jim Beam + Coke style. Some of their songs have been floating around for a bit, but I especially like these:

SIR LUSCIOUS LEFTFOOT
It's unreal how much I want to hear Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty. All four of these little bits have oozed out over the past couple years and apparently there's only a little over a month left until it officially drops. Stock up on dutches and Crown Royal Black.
Big Boi + Too Short + George Clinton - For Your Sorrows
Big Boi + Andre 3000 + Raekwon - Royal Flush

CLEARING
I've listened to these Clearing tracks a few times and it wasn't until the third time that I got to listen to it loud enough. The first time was at night and the next was at work. Might be why it sounds like dreaming of the bubbling water cooler. Or the street sound when it's warm enough to leave your windows open all night. Kind of reminds me of Harmonia and How to Dress Well. Get yer Megaupload on at Myspace.

HEROBUST
heRobust is one half of the duo Mane Mane (the other half is C Powers). He contributed a track to Friendship Bracelet Club Volume 4 and has slowly been uploading more and more tracks at Soundcloud and Bandcamp and Myspace. One of my favorites is "Peanut Blubber," embedded below. The newest addition is the BUSTED edit of KP & Envyi's "Shawty Swing My Way," streaming at Bandcamp.

FRIENDSHIP CLUB #7 - DENT MAY
Dent May whipped up this delightfully soft mix as #7 of the Friendship Bracelet Friendship Club series. Last year's The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele (Paw Tracks) was one of my favorites of 2009. He's currently working on his new album for Paw Tracks, tentatively due out sometime early next year ("but who knows might be in 10 years").

WAY LATE SXSW PHOTOS
So these are a few of the photos I salvaged from my bunk-ass camera that broke immediately upon leaving for Austin. Everything's kinda green and most of it sucks, but here's some things I saw:

ALTO ASTRAL
Branches is Pedro Rios from Portugal. I was first introduced to him through a post on Salad Fork last month. Recently I've been digging Branches' Alto Astral cassette, which is available for free on Soundcloud. The excerpt below is two songs, "Vestido Vermelho" and "Palmeira Privada." This four-minute segment is my favorite, reminds me of something one might find on a Heaven Can Wait mixtape. Other parts remind me of Rangers and Happy Family but, like Lou noted, there's often this dub presence that reminded him of Forest Swords. I'm goin on somethin more spaced-out, like Edibles.
Check out the sample below, email Pedro for a tape and hold tight - dude's got a few releases brewin on Colour Ride and Solid Melts.

JAR MOFF
Jar Moff is from Athens, Greece. He made this awesome mix for Leaving, "recorded live from his sp404 using 1980’s Greek sci-fi, horror, and avant-garde samples." Seriously, listen to it and consider buying a copy.

PINK PRIEST REMIXES
Since I last mentioned Pink Priest when he submitted a mix for the Friendship Bracelet Friendship Club, he has been diligently collecting remixes from some notable dudes to throw together into an entire album of his songs reworked. So far he's gotten tracks from Sparkling Wide Pressure, GR†LLGR†LL, Mater Suspiria Vision, Twins, Dem Hunger and Coyote Clean Up, with many more on the way ("there's some pretty legit folks" involved, apparently). Here's a sneakpeak in the form of Twins' remix of "Field of Orgasms."

AMERICAN SMOKES
These Lester Brown songs have been haunting me for the last couple weeks. I keep listening to them and I can't think of the right thing to say, but whatever.
If it were more obscured, "American Smokes" would sound like a one-man male version of Sleep Over. Also, the vibrato on the vocal take kinda makes him sounds like the dude from Arcade Fire. "Let Your Hair Grow" is way lazy and totally aware of how 'chill' it may sound. You don't even need guy tellin you to "take a chill pill." But he does anyway.

WMUA RADIO 05/03/10
Starting this week, the ICE CREAM PAINT JOB you may have grown to love will be no more. NOT TO FEAR - I am not gone altogether, instead I am reuniting with an old cohost, DJ DARMOK a.k.a. my friend Barry, for a Summer of the most partied-out jams, sensual seductions and late nite 40oz walks.
The program will air every Monday evening from 5:30-8PM, as always on 91.1FM WMUA in Amherst, MA. I feel compelled to use this space to bring up a small issue that has come up with our program director. I would like to preface this with saying that he is a really cool/nice guy who hosts a high-quality program on WMUA himself and has put in a lot of work for the station and I'm glad that there's kids at UMass that are as dedicated as him to independent radio. However, I don't think I want to and I don't think I can stay silent on one issue of censorship with regards to what we wanted to name our program.
DARMOK chose the name, "Making Love, Sexually." It's a reference to a song from the new season of Tim & Eric sung by the one and only David Leiber Mintz. The phrase is meant not to be shocking or even anywhere close to offensive, rather it's simply funny because of its redundancy. Unfortunately we have been disallowed from using this name as the title of our show because it (and this is a direct quote) "insinuates that rape is permissible." Now call me young and liberal, but is there any part of the failed show title that at all implies anything about rape, let alone whether it is permissible or not? Personally I think not, but I would like to hear what the general public thinks about this strange situation.
As of now we have not chosen a new name for our program.
