Loveless
With Deerhunter playing at the Paradise Rock Club tonight with Vivian Girls and Times New Viking, which I will be in attendance for, I thought it appropriate to splurge and celebrate. These feelings prompted my purchase a vinyl version of My Bloody Valentine's Loveless. Turns out it's a 2003 pressing from Plain Records. Plays so smooth, it's really a sonic feat. Loveless happens to be one of my favorite records of all time, and Bradford Cox blogged about em a while back. Washes of warm pink fuzz, black buzz, muddled voices, too-perfect drum sounds, and enough swirling to make even the most nautically experienced Captain seasick make this album great. Everything's a highlight and nothing isn't necessary. Their first full record was titled Isn't Anything. This could have easily been called Is Something, due to its relevance and sheer daring qualities, a must for anyone at least half-way interested in sound as noise and how it's crafted into a listenable, even radio-friendly, even danceable form.
