FLUKER LOVE

"like if Loveless was made for £1.50"

Well maybe it's not that crucial, but this Fluker Love shit was recently made available for free download up at the Myspace, so go at it.

Andrew crafts an airy version of shoegaze, milky and dense.. but not too dense. Any absence of clarity is due to effervescence, trillions of tiny bubbles rushing to burst on your tongue. All's you gotta do is pop that Crystal Pepsi tab and let it flow. Check "In Love" (via Don't Die Wondering a while back) and likewise zone-out "With You" below then, like I said, head over to Myspace for all ten songs.

Fluker Love - In Love

Fluker Love - With You

Watch out for a Fluker Love track to appear on the THIRD INSTALLMENT of the Friendship Bracelet Club, dropping early 2010.

TRUMAN PEYOTE LIVE AT WMUA

Yesterday Caleb of Boston area duo Truman Peyote hit WMUA studios to record a few songs with buddy Orion (Lord Jeff) on drums. The results can be digested over at WMUA's podcasts page.

The two played a total of four tracks, one from TP's most recent album, two from their upcoming Mirror Universe tape and one from their upcoming split with fellow Whitehauser Many Mansions. Dudes also have a 7" out soon on their own label Breakfast of Champs.

This version of TP had practiced for a total of two hours prior to this set. The only other time I had caught them was at Weirdstock over the summer in what seems to be their truest form, with Caleb and Eric (a.k.a. Easyboy) both mashing melodies and beat-crunching. The final cuts of these songs feature Wes from The Craters on drums and those recordings will see proper release by the end of the year.

I'll cover the first hour, so expect some killer dad jams in the second half from Gin Blossoms, Buffalo Springfield, Neil Young, Joe Jackson, The Zombies, Richard Thompson and Girls (?).

THE HOTS FOR YOU

C Powers is another name in this seemingly endless Peace Age permutation, which includes many like-minded dudes bent on free music and stoned vibes (including Luke Perry, dANA, Twins, Best Hits, etc etc). Mr. Powers crafts wavering funk with whip-crack drum sounds and big, gooey bass lines, more of something I'd expect to billow out of LA rather than the UK (though he IS from the ATL). Weedsmoke puffs or London fogs, dude's beats roll dense n slinky, reflections on shit he spins while in DJ-mode - 80s boogie funk n early house.

Best part? It's all free n easy. Sample these couple tracks from the Summa Jams and Indy Scarf EPs respectively, then dive into the rest over at Myspace.

This is the same guy behind Termeric, which carries a slightly more warped sense of rhythm. Seems like there's only a few under the Termeric moniker so check out the huge, dub-flavored transmissions of "Stryde Off" from the Pods EP for starters.

BROTHER JOZEF

Brother Jozef got some nice lil jams goin on over at his Myspace page, just some quick lil deep loops.

"Those Hands Still Give Me Mercy" relies on some chopped choral swells and church bells, sorta reminds me of some sleepy old cartoon score, while "Everybody Wants To Live Together" comes on more immediately funky, though still tosses those chopped vocal cuts in there to keep it soulful.

Don't know much more. Dude resides in LA and digs on arrowheads.

TWINS

Naming one's solo project 'Twins' seems like a really good idea in concept, especially when you name your debut album Doubles.

Buddies with the previously dug upon Luke Perry, Twins is the solo tinkerings of one Best Hits member Matt (a.k.a. mdbw a.k.a. Cecil Ware a.k.a. c. ware a.k.a. spaceranger a.k.a. mud). At times, his project will make you want you to dance as much as the Best Hits mothership, but he can also get spacey on some bubbling Dolphins Into the Future eddy grooves.

"Stoned Stepper" is exactly what it prescribes - a muddy (possibly nude) high-flying romp through dirt and woods at about the pace of any one of those tight Rhythm Nation hits, en route to some great toxic rave in the stars. The term 'space jam' comes to mind.

"Less Weight" is equally as stoned, but in a different way. You'll move, but probably not much further than head nods.

Twins - Stoned Stepper

Twins - Less Weight

FRESH OUTA HIGH SCHOOL

No, I guess I'm not sick of dudes makin kinda lazy-sounding pop. Especially when one of their songs is called "Taco People." Total Slacker is Emily, Styles and Condor. One might assume they like skateboards, pizza and weed. Kinda reminds me a bit of what I've heard from The Beets.

Total Slacker - Crystal Necklace

DOMINANT LEGS

Kind of unreal how syrupy-sweet and catchy these Dominant Legs songs are. Just saw the dude playing guitar with Girls in Boston. Bummed he didn't open that show like he just started doing the other day. I tend to think these morsels remind me of some really disco-poppy Jeremy Jay songs ("Love Everlasting").

Dominant Legs - Young at Love and Life

Dominant Legs - About My Girls

And if you're into high-flying dunks, early-to-mid 90s Chicago Bulls and glancing back to camcorder footage of one's youth, peep this video for "Just Silly Ones." Put a few more inches on this dude and I swear he'd be in the NBA right now. Luckily for you he's making us music.

BUON GIORNO LUAMADA

Igor Andrade is Buon Giorno Luamada. According to São Paulo dudes Perdizes Dream, guy is "a 21 years-old cinema student from Rio de Janeiro" whose first full-length drops in early December on their label (EDIT: Official release date December 3).

Julian Lynch is appropriately found in Buon Giorno Luamada's Top Myspace Friends, appropriate cos the first song there is "Cartographie," a lazily swirling gem whose pace and overall production values very much so resemble the "Basement Jam" track Julian got me for the last FBC compilation. Pulsating n humming. Way perfect autumn clouds music.

RIFTS

Last summer I heard Oneohtrix Point Never's Zones Without People album after meeting Daniel Lopatin at a show. Next week No Fun Productions will release Rifts, a 2CD set of his first three albums all smashed together, with Zones Without People sandwiched between Betrayed in the Octagon and Russian Mind.

Ice-cold synth tones shift through cavernous progressions and pile onto each other to create some imagined laser-world, very much like our own. Water flows upstream, massive cliffs overlook murderous seas, huge outgrowths of vegetation thrive where wave meets coast. The jungle runs deep, paths are beaten into the floor where generations tread decades earlier.

However, with such a glossy and streamlined physiology, focal points blend, visions get confused. Luckily, we are frequently reminded that this virtual world retreats when we stand up from our computer and face the air. What we thought was canopies and coconuts was just a complex patchwork of lasers, a modern-day mirage. Eventually electronics malfunction and short and, like the Wizard of Oz for example, reality reveals itself.

I really enjoy this whole album. It doesn't beg you to do anything. It lets you go on. Supreme deep-sleep material. Check out some samples from Zones Without People HERE and completely take off into stratosphere-mode with "Physical Memories" HERE. Looks like you can BUY IT HERE.

P.S. If you're in Brooklyn Friday evening check out the Rifts record release party at Glasslands.

P.P.S. Check out this rad set Lopatin did for Rare Frequency over the summer.

SO DREAMY

Last week Ryan Howe a.k.a. Luke Perry combined forces with James Ferraro, Eric Copeland and Infinity Window to bring Death By Audio what was assuredly a warped, chromed-out experience. I wasn't there, but according to some eye-witnesses I have the sense that I'm right.

Today Pixelhorse provides some video from that night of Luke Perry's set, which was actually his duo dANA playing half dANA songs, half Luke Perry songs. The product is a scorched six minutes of Kraut-y repetitions and carnival loops, not unlike the extended jams on Luke Perry's cassette-turned-CDR Midnight Perry.

Lookout for his split with Friendship Bracelet favorites Speculator out sometime soon. Until then, check out this excerpt from the first side of Midnight Perry, some constant Remain In Light strum over alien abduction X-Files whistles.

BIG TROUBLES LIVE AT LEVI'S/FADER FORT

Ian + Alex a.k.a. Big Troubles performed a couple songs in a bathroom for Levi's/Fader's Hotbox series, makin Friendship Bracelet proud by playing "Drastic and Difficult" from the first Friendship Bracelet Club compilation. The duo's two guitars sort of hold off on the fuzz for this intimate experience, instead opting for duel chiming strums. Oh, and you can make out the words, which might be a first. Peep "Drastic and Difficult" below then click HERE to check em doin the same thing with "Freudian Slips."

GIRLS/REAL ESTATE PHOTOS

Girls/Real Estate at Great Scott last nite was rad as expected. Tallboys and jams. Just put maracas in every song.

GIRLS/REAL ESTATE

Ima be catching two bands tonite I'd assume you've heard of, Girls and Real Estate, at Great Scott in Allston/Boston/Ballston. Show's cold sold out so bummer if ya ain't got tickets (not to dangle it in front of you or anything). I'll maybe get some photographs to share assuming I can wade to the front of this supposed sold out crowd.

I'ma also mention how Real Estate just 'released' their tour-only 12" yesterday at their Bowery Ballroom show. Assuming they made more than a few dozen I'm lookin to pick one up, mainly because half of the songs on the record were recorded LIVE AT WMUA STUDIOS a.k.a. the place I broadcast from when I host my radio program. Big ups to WMUA (esp. Alex + Gabriel fer recordin the thing) and watch out for more live WMUA sessions churned out this winter!

ALSO if you happen to be in or around Western Massachusetts tomorrow morning/afternoon, be sure to check out the Flywheel Record Fair from 10AM-3PM at the new Flywheel location at the Old Town Hall in Easthampton. Totally free to get in (very much unlike the WFMU fair during CMJ) and you're sure to find somethin ya dig since there's anywhere from 30 to 50 vendors pushin wares. Bring yer wallet n yer diggin hands.

DUBLAB

dublab celebrated their 10th birthday this past month and now it's time to.. you know... keep it going for another 10 years. They're currently in the middle of their DUBLAB DECADE PROTON DRIVE, which urges evryone from the casual grazer to the diehard fan to contribute to the collective in exchange for some cool premiums and entry to a contest for the "MEGA-PROTON PRIZE PACK".

What's more is 'sorceror' matthewdavid has created a "dublab decade theme song" to commemorate the occasion. This track falls more on the "Fernwood Flash" side, more beat oriented than some of the other gaseous sounds that've been seeping out lately. Free Music Archive has it up for download and stream.

Expect something special sometime soon, for dublab from FB.

SETTLED

So things have been figured out. The 'band' in the last post is Wingdings. Wingdings is one man, Sam Meringue. Wingdings I, II and III cassettes are all available through Tomentosa on Outer Limits Recordings.

Sam indeed worked with James Ferraro on 90210 (Pacific City Studios, sold out) but, no, he is not James Ferraro.

Sam is part of Yoga (RSTB posted two Yoga tracks a few days ago.. recommend "Encante"), whose new record Megafauna is out now on Holy Mountain.

Sam is Matrix Metals, whose Flamingo Breeze tape I heard over the summer from Weed Temple and couldn't stop jamming on. This will be reissued on vinyl, "about to drop" on Olde English Spelling Bee sometime soon so buy that when you can and for now indulge.

Sam is also involved in another OESB LP release under the name Flashback Repository. It is available on cassette through Outer Limits Recordings, as is the Foxy Baby cassette, being reissued soon on Not Not Fun
.

SPEAKING OF WHICH, Sam recently released the cosmo-drone Bermuda Telepaths LP "under the never-again-used Explorers moniker" on Not Not Fun. Microphones In The Trees was cool to post it.

So basically this guy is responsible for a lot of psychedelic starscorched pop-goop. Put on yer diggin boots.

WINDINGS

Saw this here. Proceeded to read subsequent comments on blog. Don't rrreally care if it's 'bullshit' cos it's pretty rad. Still can't tell if he's called 'Windings' or 'Wingdings' but preeetty sure it's 'Windings' (but it's actually 'Wingdings'). Sort of Rangers Low Cut Fades rhythms dunked in a James Ferraro seafloor spirit jam. This stuff drips huge oily rainbowdrops. Huge Houseboats. Mutant Pop Muck. Elegant dessert cart in Floating Denny's.

Wingdings - II

Wingdings - III

ABSOLUTE BODY CONTROL

vibes4life hooked us all up with The Lost Tapes just in time for Halloween, a killer comp documenting the European 'Minimal Wave' sound from 1981-86. The name kinda threw me off. Not minimal like Phillip Glass. More like razor-synth post-punk jams from an erotic sci-fi flick. Best cuts are "Automatic I" by Absolute Body Control, "Time Is On Our Side" by Autumn and "Sex Cinema" by ADN' La Catastrophe.

All three share similar inorganic qualities and ask a similar question - what separates us humans from them machines? We pump fuel, hiss and groan just like them. We shut down for regular maintenance, destined to become obsolete by the end of our days. We repeat. The only difference? Something about sex, trapped by love something something.

U GOT THE LOOK

A little update on orders you may have placed:

We had the tapes sent to Kenny in Brooklyn on the off chance they'd get there while I was in the area for CMJ. However, this did not work out as planned. HOWEVER, the tapes arrived at Kenny late last week and he's shipping me half of the tapes. SO I will hopefully receive the tapes sometime this week and will begin sending pre-orders out. This week I will also send out FBC Volume 2 packages. Sorry for waits and wonderings, but stuff will start blasting out of here soon. THANKS.

New JEFF the Brotherhood video. As expected, it's goofy.

BEDWETTER

First checked this guy Isaac Knight a.k.a. Boneless when my buddy Dave (An Uncontrollable Urge) blabbed about him fairly recently, likening the sound to "sweet acid magic."

However, there's nothing magical about acid trip repetitions. They're expected to persist, lapping up time with a candy-coated tongue. Swaying, nodding, bobbing, a nice piece of trash caught in perfect circular wave motions. The loop maintains its pulse within a strict radius - up and down forever, one foot forward and one foot back. Better stay off the coast cos the beach is for bums. Better make it out to sea, it's worth the risk to drown.

Boneless - Warm Breeze
